In our school we asked all age groups of students about their habits of game as well as lower, upper and grammar school students. The outcome of the poll showed a slight difference among the age groups namely between the lower class students and the upper class/ grammar school.
We can state that the parents of all age groups were born in a so called demographical tide when approximately 60% more babies were born than nowadays, these were the sixties and seventies in our country. There often were 2 or 3 kids in the families, so there were many children in one sreet who could play together, mostly outdoor games /football, dolls, toy cars, playground, hide and seek, catch, doctor, mumandad/. All age groups said that there was no diffenence in the ways of playing between the school and home at their parents’ time. They did not have so many toys as their children do today but still they could play all the time having so many playmates.
As it was predictable the difference in the answers given was about the games our students play presently. While the lower class students said their favourite games were board games and PC games, the older students revealed a major interest in PC games. Lower class students prefer playing with others while the older ones like co-playing and lonely games as well. At their age rivalising is more common. In our days the parents are more busy that is why they have less time to co-play with their kids. The chilren have got used to playing alone and not in groups because there are far fewer children in our country than in our parents’ time.
Lower class students show a great interest in making their own toys and are also interested in playing games that do not need any kinds of tools. Older students are less excited about such things. Very popular board games are Monopoly and Scrabble.
Outdoor games are popular among all age groups. Grammar school kids prefer football, streetball, but mostly boys. Among indoor games the lower class students mentioned guessing games, board games and role plays. We can say that these kinds of games are also popular among the higher classes as well. While only half of the kids prefer PC games in the lower classes this figure is far higher among he higher class students.
Younger kids often argue about the rules and timing an this is similar with the other age group but lower class kids hardly ever cheat while the older often do and argue about he rules sometimes changing them, creating new ones. Lower class students often create stories during the games and tis can also be seen among older students. Younger kids can argue about who to let join their game but this is less common with the higher age groups.
